Larry Laffrey, the closing speaker at the 2010 conference had several great book recommendations.  They can be found here.

"I really appreciated the opportunity the conference gave me to describe and discuss my re-entering process with other students who had been abroad that are not my friends and family.  This allowed me to examine my own experiences in a new way with people who are not necessarily familiar with me and have no preconceived ideas of how I process or internalize experiences.  I enjoyed volunteering because I was able to relay some of my experiences and answer questions about the region of the world I was in and the program that I went through.  The conference also created a great community of students and young people who all love international travel.  The sense of excitement about previous and future experiences for everyone present was palpable."

-Maddy Gribbon, 2010 Conference Student Volunteer

“It was inspiring to be in a room with so many passionate travelers. I loved hearing everyone's stories and sharing my own and left with a good feeling that I would be traveling again soon. The workshops helped me learn fun and interesting ways to expand my knowledge while living abroad again.  Having just returned from Greece, I felt alone after such an amazing trip.  Going to the NW Returnee Fair helped reconnect me to friends and opportunities that made my transition back home much easier.”

-Korrin Bishop,  2010 Conference Student Volunteer

"The NW Returnee Conference has proven to be a really valuable aspect of my experience in serving as an international intern. It has been an excellent way for me to stay connected others who've gained similar perspectives and to do some reflecting and learning that might have otherwise not taken place.   Since attending the NW Returnee Conference I have begun the think in a broader and more creative way about how I am going to make international education, service, and work a part of my life. It's given me a lot more to go on in this arena than I would otherwise have."
