Abroad Again

Have you got the travel bug?  Do you want to go abroad again?  Learn about the many options of how you can go abroad.  This session will give an overview of strategies, programs and things to consider so that you can make your dream a reality.  Opportunities such as graduate school and research, internships, teaching and volunteering abroad will be discussed at this session.  You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions of the presenters who advise on these opportunities and have worked, taught, or volunteered abroad themselves. 

International Career Panel

Ready for the “real world?”  After graduation many study abroad returnees wish to take their professional career abroad or work in an internationally minded career here in the U.S.  This panel will include individuals who have worked abroad or have internationally related positions in a variety of sectors in the U.S.  Hear their experiences on how they got to their career and come ready to ask them your questions!

Internationally Focused Graduate Schools and Programs

Panelists: Teppei Hayashi, Oregon State University; Lillian Read, University of Oregon; Monica Henry, Quileute Tribe, La Push, Washington; Laura Sweet, CIEE

More students are pursuing a higher degree upon completing their undergraduate studies.  This session will offer you ideas of what kind of programs exist that would fit your academic, professional and personal goals.  Many of these programs value your international experience, which is an essential qualification for admission.  The panelists will share their perspectives on different graduate schools/programs, how they chose their program, and what path they took to be where they are today.

Travel Writing: Documenting your Journey

Panelists: Jamie Hoag Barnett, University of Oregon; Giustina Pelosi, IE3 Global Internships

Capturing the essence of your study abroad experience for an on-line blog, printed magazine or your private travel journal is an art; and like any art, it takes a lot of work.  This session will offer advice on how to share your study experience through a different lens.  Information will also be presented on how you can submit your travel stories to various publications and how you can also share them with your home campus community.

Funding Abroad Again

Panelists: Kathy Poole, University of Oregon; Andrea Herling, University of Oregon; Recent scholarship recipients (names TBA)

Using the Fulbright scholarship program as a case study, we will discuss what it takes to prepare a strong application for a variety of competitive, internationally-oriented scholarships.  Recent scholarship recipients will be on hand to share their thoughts on preparing competitive applications.  We will also provide information about select international scholarships.

International Resume Building

Panelists: Joy Killgore, IPSL; Linda Williams Favero, University of Oregon Alumni Career Services

Creating an effective international resume can allow you to stand out amongst the crowd of applicants for internationally-related positions!  What is the best way to include your education abroad experience on your resume?  It is important to present your experience well to potential employers.  Review your resume prior to coming to this session or even bring it with you to reference throughout the presentation.
